First Steps is the National Rifle Association's response to the American public's need for a firearm program for new shooters.
This 6-hour, NRA approved course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using a handgun safely. Each student will learn about revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, how they function, and how to handle them in a safe manner. After learning the NRA's three rules of gun safety, students will be shown how guns work. They will learn proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and sight picture before shooting both revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. The course fee includes the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Handbook, range fees, ammunition, use of handguns, and instruction by NRA Certified Instructors. Students will start out using .22 caliber pistols and progress to larger, self-defense calibers during their shooting session.
This preliminary course is for those who want to learn shooting fundamentals before pursuing concealed carry training as well as those who may have taken concealed carry training and want to improve their basic shooting skills.
